Sebastian Stan Reveals Captain America Originally Had A Bigger Teaser For The Winter Soldier

Actor Sebastian Stan reveals that 2011’s Captain America debut originally have a bigger tease for his role as The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but was scrapped off.

Captain America: The First Avenger debuted Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in the MCU together with his best friend Stan’s Bucky who had an unfortunate death in the middle of the film.

Though real Marvel Comics fans knew that his character will be back, Bucky officially rose from the dead and became The Winter Soldier in Captain America’s sequel. Like Steve Rogers, he was experimented with the supersoldier serum but was brainwashed by Hydra, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s counterpart. Bucky came back with a metal arm and goes face to face with Captain America and completely matches him.

In Captain America: Civil War, Bucky eventually regains her memories but was revealed that he killed Tony Stark’s parents. This event made Iron Man relentlessly hunt him down while his best friend, Steve Rogers eagers to save him. This causes a big rift in Rogers and Stark’s friendship. But later on, on the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Bucky officially became an Avenger when he helped the group defend the soul stone in Wakanda. And most recently, he reprised his role in a standalone Disney+ TV series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier together with co-star Anthony Mackie.

Bucky’s own journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe wasn’t really bad at all. But on an interview segment with VanityFair, Stan revealed some scrapped details with his tragic death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Stan revealed,

"I knew at the end of the story I was going to fall off this train and that I was going to be given this green sleeve, which would indicate that I would be losing this arm and then I could go into the Winter Soldier storyline. That was the only sort of indication I had that potentially I could be coming back, but no one had said anything to me. And then, basically, on the day when we were shooting that scene, they were like, 'Yeah, we're not going to do the green sleeve.' And I just thought, 'Oh, that's it. I'm just going to die on that train.”

This decision by Marvel surely keeps us from anticipating that he will be The Winter Soldier soon in the future of MCU and keeps the focus on Steve Rogers’ own journey as the film’s main purpose is to introduce Captain America’s origin story.

With Bucky’s well-written character development, he certainly already redeemed himself from his dark past. Especially after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which allowed us to see more of him as an Avenger and Captain America’s best friend.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier series is still streaming on Disney+.
