Sean Gunn Comments on His Brother's Firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Marvel Studios

The reveals at SDCC 2018 came with a bittersweet feeling after it was revealed that James Gunn had been fired by Disney from working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Sean Gunn, James' brother, who also plays Kraglin and the stand-in for Rocket Raccoon, has released a statement regarding his brother's firing.

Here's his post on Instagram:

As a longtime collaborator of James Gunn, it must have been a hard blow for Sean to find out that his brother has fallen victim to a smear campaign that successfully got him booted from the Guardians project. Some people have suggested that James Gunn had been targeted by the alt-right seeing as he was one of the more vocal criticizers when it came to the current political climate.

For now, reaction to Gunn's firing has been kind of divided. Some say that it was right for Disney to fire him, but others are standing by Gunn to say that he deserves to work on the movie, and that his more than decades old tweets should not have been basis for him losing the job. After all, he did apologize for them, even way before he got the gig from Marvel Studios.

If anything, I stand by having Gunn come back to the project. After all, Guardians is about a group of less than stellar individuals who strive together to become better than themselves. Having Gunn fired over some ancient tweets (which he already apologized for) seems to send the opposite message that people are not capable of change.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was slated for a release in 2020.
