Scarlett Johansson Says Avengers: Endgame Elevates the Superhero Movie Genre

Looking back at one of the biggest comic book movies of the year, Marvel's Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson declares Avengers: Endgame as a superhero movie that elevates the genre.

Speaking in an interview with Vanity Fair to discuss the most recent Marvel movie that she's starred in, Johansson calls Endgame as an ambitious superhero movie that elevated the comic book movie genre with its many critical and commercial accomplishments.

According to the actress, she felt the Endgame was a satisfying movie that properly culminated the past ten years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I'm really proud of Endgame. It was so ambitious," Johansson told the entertainment news outlet, "I felt it really strongly delivered. I felt it was satisfying. Actually, I felt like Endgame elevated the genre in a lot of ways and it actually allowed all of us as characters to have great dramatic moments where you don't really have that room in those genre movies because they're so plot-driven. This one was actually quite character-driven. I felt very emotional when I watched it but also very proud of it."

Johansson isn't the only one who feels that Endgame elevated the comic book genre. Disney is also very proud of Joe and Anthony Russo's follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War. Right now, the Mickey Mouse House is pushing for Endgame to get some recognition at next year's Oscars, hoping that the comic book movie will be able to win some major awards at the event.

Knowing the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences' history with the comic book movie genre we can't be quite sure about what to expect, but things have begun changing at the Oscars, so who knows, Endgame might get a Best Picture nomination.

Avengers: Endgame is available on Blu-Ray, Digital HD, and DVD.
