When Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow sacrificed her life in Avengers: Endgame, fans were left with disappointment that the beloved hero wasn't given a proper sendoff. After a decade in the franchise, Natasha Romanoff gets her own solo movie, with Johansson promising that the movie will give fans a sense of closure.
A preview for the movie's "Special Book" surfaced online, sharing the actor's insights on the film, discussing how Black Widow will help fans heal over Natasha's death. "There was no reason to do a Black Widow standalone film unless we could dig deep and be brave," she said. "I'm very happy with all the work we've done on the Marvel Studios films."
"I felt that Avengers: Endgame was so satisfying I wanted to make sure Black Widow would feel rewarding," Johansson added. "Not just for the fans, but also for myself, artistically and creatively, after a decade of playing this character."
The actor then revealed that the solo film gives the "opportunity for some sort of healing and understanding" as to why Natasha made the ultimate decision to sacrifice her life in Endgame.
Asked whether a Black Widow movie was something she has been thinking about since Iron Man 2, Johansson says, "I don't think we would have been able to cut that deep back then." The actor also thinks it would have likely been "much more of a straight-up spy thriller" that's probably "a lot flashier" and just scratches the surface of what's to come in the actual solo film.
Black Widow director Cate Shortland recently confirmed that the film will pass the baton to Florence Pugh, and as exciting as it is to see Yelena Belova's adventures in the future, it's safe to say that it'll be an emotional ride for fans of Johansson's character.
Black Widow is set for release this November 6.
