Scarlett Johansson Answers: When Will a Black Widow Movie Be Made?

Scarlett Johansson wants to do a standalone Black Widow movie, and many of her fans would certainly agree. But whlle many of her co-stars in the Avengers series have had their shot at going solo, Marvel has not released any definite plans as to when the lady spy will have her turn in the spotlight. The actress finally shares her thoughts on what will it take to do that movie, and how long it would take before it gets an official greenlight.

Johansson points out that it may take a lot of planning in an MCU that lays it groundwork for its superhero films at least four years in advance. And while the studio does have "a really huge roster," the commitment to do a standalone fillm for the Russian spy remains strong.

In an interview with Total Film Magazine which featured her Ghost in the Shell character on the cover, Johannson reveals that she and Marvel 's top guy Kevin Feige have been discussing the subject:

"I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it's just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself."

The actress herself has a pretty busy sked, with Ghost in the Shell's upcoming release and the current Avengers: Infinity Wars location shoot. Another movie she has just finished doing, the comedy-drama Rock That Body, will open this year. She is currently voicing the animated film Isle of Dogs which is due for a 2018 release.

Still, given the chance to play Black Widow on her own adventure, Johansson says she would give it her all:

"If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it."

Marvel Studios should definitely pencil her in within their four-year planning. If there's one thing that rival DCEU has ahead of them, it's a standalone movie of their finest female superhero, Wonder Woman. Black Widow has been saving the world for the past four years - it's about time she gets her own time to shine.

In the meantime, Johansson fans can content themselves with watching her play another hero. Watch the clip of Ghost in the Shell below.

Ghost in the Shell hits on theaters on March 31.
