San-Diego Comic Con International Issues Statement on Potential Coronavirus Cancellation

The fast-spreading COVID-19 has done some major damage to the entertainment industry. Forcing people to stay home to avoid catching the disease, the novel coronavirus has shut down major events.

Disney was forced to cancel the European launch event of its streaming site, Disney+. South by Southwest (SXSW), an annual media festival in Austin Texas, was also cancelled to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Coachella was moved to a later date. Emerald City Comic Con was postponed. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2020 was just recently canceled.

With so many major events canceling and postponing, pop culture fans couldn't help but wonder whether the organizers of this year's San Diego Comic-Con International would do the same. Sure, the pop culture convention doesn't take place until July, but some are concerned that COVID-19 may still have some sort of effect on the event.

ComicBook.com just recently contacted SDCC's organizers to determine what steps they're taking in the light of the current novel coronavirus pandemic. According to the entertainment news outlet, Comic-Con International has just supplied a new statement regarding the issue.

"Comic-Con is working with local officials as it pertains to the COVID-19 situation and continues to monitor developments closely," the organizers wrote, "At this time both shows, WonderCon Anaheim and Comic-Con in San Diego, are moving forward as scheduled. As always, the safety and security of all our attendees is of utmost importance. Please rest assured that these concerns are being taken very seriously and we will not make any decisions regarding the rescheduling of shows without weighing all considerations carefully."

Guess pop culture fans will just have to wait and see how the current coronavirus outbreak goes. We're hoping that the disease tempers once we approach the summer season.

San Diego Comic-Con is scheduled for July 24 to July 26.
