Samuel L. Jackson has been a mainstay in the MCU for years now and he finally gets to have his own showcase in the new Nick Fury-led series Secret Invasion.
Fortunately, the character is still expected to stay in the franchise as it's already been confirmed that he will also show up in the upcoming film The Marvels and perhaps in other projects.
As Nick Fury is slowly making his full-fledged comeback, another new character is on the rise through Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (aka Val) who is actively recruiting for members of the Thunderbolts and now also serves as the CIA Director.
Considering that Val has been described as the antithesis of Nick Fury, it seems to be inevitable at this point that the character will face off and fans have been wondering about when it will happen.
Samuel L. Jackson Discusses the Emergence of Val in the MCU
In an interview with TheWrap, Jackson was asked about his thoughts regarding the arrival of Val in the MCU and whether the two characters will ever cross paths in the future due to the similarities between them.
While the actor hesitated to discuss, he did hint that the two characters might face off in the future based on the discussion that he had with Louis-Dreyfus.
"I don't want to talk about that, but I've talked to her about it already because she did a film with my wife that's coming out very soon," he said.
"She was sitting right behind me at the Oscars. So she kept poking me saying, 'We're gonna fight, we're gonna fight.' I guess she already knows something I don't know. But she's just starting something anyway."
Considering the nature of their respective characters and Fury's status in the MCU now as shown in Secret Invasion, it's inevitable at this point for the characters to face off and it would definitely be an interesting moment that fans can look forward to.
However, Val is also busy right now assembling the members of the Thunderbolts group so it might also take a while before they cross paths.
Nevertheless, it is an exciting proposition and it is interesting to see how they'll handle it once the moment finally arrives.
