Sam Raimi Shares Admiration for Spider-Man: No Way Home Director Jon Watts

Director Sam Raimi pioneered the superhero genre in the 2000s with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man Trilogy. Impressively, the fans loved the three installments, and each one had triumphant box office receipts. Even today, Maguire's web-slinging hero still remains at the top of the fan-favored versions of the character after Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland stepped on the role.

Now that both Tobey Maguire surprisingly reprised the role of the web-slinger in 2021's MCU box office milestone Spider-Man: No Way Home and Sam Raimi is back into his superhero roots with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have always questioned the possibility of the two reuniting for a superhero project. While Marvel Studios hasn't yet announced any project that includes the two, Raimi has recently shared praises for Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts, in which Maguire's Peter Parker returned.

While promoting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, director Sam Raimi sat down and answered several fan questions using the Twitter Movies account. When asked which Marvel director he admires, Raimi responded, “One of the Marvel directors I admire very much is Jon Watts. I loved ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, I thought that was just one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen.”

It appears that Sam Raimi is among the many Marvel fans who couldn't get over the unforgettable three-generation reunion of Peter Parkers, including Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and current MCU Peter Parker Tom Holland on the big screens. For Jon Watts, this must be overwhelming praise especially because it came from the veteran director who first helmed the Spider-Man franchise.

For now, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4 has been constantly petitioned by the fans following Maguire's return in No Way Home. However, Marvel hasn't yet announced any project that includes the actor. But if ever Spider-Man 4 progress into development, reuniting Maguire and Raimi again in a Spider-Man project would extremely be mind-blowing.

Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now showing in theaters worldwide.
