Sam Raimi Admits to Not Seeing a Lot of MCU Films Prior to Directing Doctor Strange 2

There's a lot of hype right now for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as evidenced by some ticketing sites crashing yesterday when tickets went on sale a month before its release. Part of the excitement is the fact that original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi is helming the film which would mean that we might see his infamous trademark style which was already hinted at by the trailers that were released.

During a recent interview with Fandango, Raimi was asked about his experience with the MCU so far given that he is one of the proponents of the popularity of Marvel movies going way back to 2002's Spider-Man to which he revealed that he has only seen a few MCU films so far.

"Well, since you got to give a short story, I'm going to give a two-part answer. I had seen Iron Man, the first Avengers, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange, and little clips of the other movies," he said. "They've made 28 movies. I've only really seen four or five, so I'll say not that familiar. That's part one. By the way, I loved what I saw, but not that familiar. But part two is I was a giant fan of the Marvel comic books of the '70s and '80s and into the '90s. So, I was super familiar with the characters, and their stories, and their interactions. That's what the Marvel movies are based on. So that's my answer."

While Raimi admitted that he has only seen a few MCU films so far, he is a huge fan of the Marvel comics which is still very valuable knowledge as the director of the upcoming film which will deal with the multiverse and potential appearances of a lot of beloved Marvel characters. He also has the Marvel Studios team working around him who would help navigate all the MCU connections.

There's also the fact that Raimi was one of the people behind the rise of Marvel movies during the early 2000s so he has the experience to helm a film like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Whether he has seen a lot of MCU films yet or not, it should still be exciting to find out what he has in store for what could be the most bonkers entry in the franchise to date. With all the rumors and speculations that we've heard so far, we know that there will be a lot of surprises coming.
