Salma Hayek Almost Spoiled Eternals Secret at SDCC

One of the most important things about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe is keeping secrets. That's something that Salma Hayek had to learn as soon as her casting in Eternals was confirmed. The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard star has just revealed that she almost leaked an important detail about the MCU flick at San Diego Comic-Con. Luckily, director Chloe Zhao was able to stop her from oversharing!

Back in 2019, Salma Hayek attended SDCC with the rest of the Eternals cast. Not surprisingly, Hayek was hyped up to be part of the event and couldn't stop talking about her new project. However, her enthusiasm for the MCU film almost led to some secret details being leaked.

Hayek was recently a guest on The Graham Norton Show where she spoke about what happened at SDCC.

"I remember talking to the director for the first time in a hotel room where they do that [Comic-Con] in San Diego where all the people dress like Halloween when it's not Halloween. The whole thing was completely surreal," Hayek stated. "And talking to her, I'm Mexican, I talk loud...and I start asking her questions, and she's like, 'Shhh!' I'm like, 'What?!' [She says], 'They can hear us. And in the script, it's a secret.'"

There's nothing wrong with Hayek's enthusiasm but Zhao had a good reason for being extra careful as well. Most leaks come from the actors themselves when they are unaware that they are being spied on.

Luckily, Zhao's warning may have worked as we didn't hear about any major leaks from Eternals right after the film was announced at SDCC. This is a great thing since we can expect to be surprised when the movie finally premieres this November.

Hayek plays Ajak, the spiritual leader of the Eternals. Although the character is portrayed as male in the comic books, the film has gender-swapped the Eternal so she could serve as a mother figure to her companions. It's an interesting change that alters the dynamic between the Eternals.

Eternals also stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, and Angelina Jolie. The film will premiere in theaters on November 5, 2021.
