Ryan Reynolds Shares Mo-Cap Look for Detective Pikachu

We've seen Pokemon in almost every medium possible, but next year will be the first time we see them in live action. The hype is continuing to build for Detective Pikachu, and as it turns out, Ryan Reynolds will be providing more than just the voice of the title character.

Reynolds shares this image of himself with mo-cap dots on his face, revealing that he'll also be acting out Pikachu's actions in the film:

Personally, I don't see how matching Reynolds' face to the CGI Pikachu would help flesh out the character on film, but I guess it would make the performance more organic. It probably would also be easier to match the voice lines with the model's mouth. Maybe I just wanted to see more animated faces when it came to the Pokemon.

Then again, I have no idea about how animation works at all, so what do I know?

Reynolds is taking the box office by storm after the Deadpool franchise. He made a huge success bringing the Merc with the Mouth to the big screen, and now he's going to be the voice of the first live-action Pikachu to grace movie theaters everywhere. What will he be playing next, Hugh Jackman in a biopic film?

A young man joins forces with Detective Pikachu to unravel the mystery behind his father's disappearance. Chasing clues through the streets of Ryme City, the dynamic duo soon discover a devious plot that poses a threat to the Pokémon universe.

Detective Pikachu comes out May 10.
