Ryan Reynolds On Whether Disney Might Change Deadpool’s R-Rating After The Fox Merger

Marvel fans might be excited for the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the other mutants to head over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney completes its acquisition of 21st Century Fox and its assets, but there are still a few concerns over the merger.

Though the Disney and Fox merger could mean that Marvel can finally have the X-Men and the rest of the mutants on its side, the acquisition can actually be a problem for the studio's R-Rated Deadpool franchise.

Disney's always been a proud family-friendly company, and many worry that the Mickey Mouse House would force future Deadpool movies to drop its brassy humor and fall in line with the company's G rating.

However, Deadpool franchise producer and star Ryan Reynolds tells Entertainment Weekly that there probably isn't anything to worry about when the merger finally completes.

"I really genuinely don't know a thing about it," Reynolds says. "I read that [CEO and chairman] Bob Iger felt that there's plenty of room in that universe to have a rated-R character like Deadpool. This is completely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn't imagine that Disney bought Fox to dismantle it or something like that. I think that Disney bought Fox so it could have that in its arsenal."

The Merc with a Mouth actor does make a pretty good point. Disney can't get in the way of Deadpool knowing how successful the franchise actually is. After all, like any other company, Disney is interested in profit. Disney would lose profit if it actually forced the Deadpool franchise to tone down its rating – after all, the crude and brassy humor that comes with the Merc with a Mouth's films is one of its biggest draws.

Deadpool 2 premieres May 18.
