Ryan Reynolds Had To Approve This Much Money For Bea Arthur’s Cameo on Deadpool

Deadpool may have broken a ton of box office records and earned just as much money with ticket and merchandise sales, but apparently, the movie's success came at a rather huge production cost. The expense? $10,000 for the appearance of Bea Arthur's image on Wade Wilson's shirt at the beginning of the movie.

According to Deadpool's official commentary track via Empire Magazine, one of Reynolds' anecdotes in the movie is his decision over featuring the famous Golden Girls cast member for a hefty sum.

The 39-year-old actor said:

As a producer, I had to approve that $10,000. ... [But], you can't have aDeadpoolmovie without Bea Arthur.

In the end, it wasn't all for naught, since the late actress' estate approved of her face's appearance on Ryan Reynolds' chest if the $10,000 payment would be donated to the charity of its choosing. It's highly likely that the money was donated to the Ali Forney Center, Bea Arthur's favorite charity, which provides shelter to homeless LGBTQ youth.

For those who may not know, in the comics, Deadpool/Wade Wilson is a huge fan of Bea Arthur's work, which has come up in his stories several times. In fact, the Merc with a Mouth is devoted to her that he's disappointed over Arthur not being named "Sexiest Woman Alive" in People Magazine.

It's probably expected that Arthur's image or likeness will appear at some point in Deadpool 2. I wonder what the movie's team will come up with next time. Assuming they have more budget for the film now, there's a lot of possibilities by which they'll have her appear.

Deadpool is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
