Ryan Reynolds Filmed that Deadpool Test Footage the Same Weekend Green Lantern Came Out

It famously took Ryan Reynolds years before he could make the Deadpool movie happen, and what kickstarted the campaign to have the film made was the leak of the test footage. As it turns out, Reynolds actually shot the test during the opening weekend of Green Lantern.

This was revealed by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld who told Collider:

"I would go watch that footage at Tim's studio for three years. People forget! That footage was filmed in 2011. Ryan filmed that the weekend Green Lantern came out. I was at Blur studios. Ryan filmed that the weekend Green Lantern was opening, that's how old that footage is!"

If you watch the Deadpool films, you can even argue that the Green Lantern movie is somewhat intimately linked with them. Being the first superhero film to put Reynolds on the spotlight, it kind of makes sense that Reynolds would like to poke fun at it with the superhero that he actually turned into a hit.

As for other ‘terrible' superhero movies, I have to commend what Reynolds did with Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He only really got to act in the first few minutes, but he made the character incredibly funny while he still kicked ass. Even the bit where it's revealed that Wade can speak different languages was a fun joke (because, it's another testament to just how talkative he really is).

Deadpool 2 is still cinemas.
