The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts an impressive ensemble of actors and for the longest time, Ryan Gosling has been lobbying to get a spot in the billion-dollar franchise. The Hollywood heartthrob, who recently worked with Chris Evans and The Russo Brothers in Netflix's The Gray Man has constantly expressed his desire to join the MCU.

It turns out that Kevin Feige once met with Gosling for a potential role in the beloved franchise but as it stands, nothing has been officially set in stone. Ryan did state, however, that he wants to play Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider given the opportunity.

Well, it looks like Marvel Studios has other plans for the seasoned actor. According to a scoop from insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), the 42-year-old star is being eyed to play Sentry who is said to be the main villain in the upcoming Thunderbolts film.

For the uninitiated, Sentry is basically Marvel's answer to Superman. Although he's typically presented as a superhero in the comics, Sentry also carries within him the supervillain known as the Void so it would be safe to assume that's the role Gosling will play. Unless, of course, the studio plans to tweak Sentry's backstory.

Interestingly, Richtman also says that Alexander Skarsgård is also being considered for the part. Assuming Thunderbolts begins filming a few months from now, it would be safe to assume that the studio will unveil the actor who plays the project's main baddie.

Gosling's MCU casting has been long overdue but I gotta say, I don't really see him as the Sentry-type, especially given his stature and physique. But of course, that's something months of superhero training and diet will fix.

Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts is slated for theatrical release on July 26, 2024.
