Everytime a new Marvel film is announced, fans immediately wonder about the crossover that can be made. Most of them are coming true in May when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters. However, fans also want to see team-ups with characters from the MCU films, Netflix-verse, and Fox side, which won't be happening for a while. Still, it hasn't stopped fans from asking directors about the possibilities, case in point a three-way crossover between Black Panther, Blade, and Luke Cage.
During an interview with BET, Ryan Coogler sadly stated that it was out of his hands. Given the opportunity, Coogler said he would since he loves the first Blade and the current Luke Cage Netflix series. After all, Blade was the first African-American superhero to hit the big screen after all and outdid Deadpool by being one of the innovators for R rated comic book movies.
"Oh man, I don't control that stuff. I know that stuff's all complicated…but I think it would be awesome. I love those characters. I loved Wesley. I remember going to see those Blade movies and just being proud. Not only were they great movies, but they really showed that comic books movies could exist. It kind of paved the way for the work we're doing now. And what [Luke Cage Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker] is doing with Netflix is just incredible, putting African-American culture on the screen like that. And seeing people react to it that aren't from that culture…it's just universal."
T'Challa has actually teamed up with Luke Cage before, most noticeably in the now-canceled Black Panther and The Crew comic book series. Blade and Cage have also been on the same team when Marvel was publishing a Mighty Avengers comic lead by the latter.
A team-up film/series with these characters would be great. However, Kevin Feige has made it clear that he doesn't want the Netflix heroes to mesh with the film characters. It seems like it will remain a dream for fans, at least until the House of Mouse runs out of ideas.
Black Panther comes out this week on February 16.
