Avengers: Infinity War was filled to the brim with shockers, and one of them was the return of Captain America villain Red Skull. As it turns out, the HYDRA leader had been forced to watch over the soul stone ever since the events of The First Avenger, but with Thanos getting his hands on it, what's an ex-Infinity Stone guardian to do?
As per the Russo Brothers (via the official Avengers twitter account):
Though we do have new options open for the Red Skull, I think it's very unlikely that he gets to appear in another movie. Besides the fact that Chris Evans is planning his MCU exit with Avengers 4, it's unlikely that the studio is going to get Hugo Weaving to reprise the role at all. In case you didn't know, that was actually master impressionist Ross Marquand playing the Skull in Infinity War, and not Weaving.
Then again, I can imagine we get some old flashbacks or cameo roles from the Red Skull. I think HYDRA is still out there in the MCU. Maybe he can appear as some form of antagonist when Marvel decides to bring in a new Captain America?
Catch the Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War hits Blu-Ray on Aug. 14.
