Russo Brothers Hint at Chris Evans' MCU Return as Wolverine

Chris Evans reunites with Marvel's Russo Brothers in the latest Netflix film, The Gray Man. Fans would witness an unusual role for Evans as he is now set to play the antagonist Lloyd Hansen. Although Evans played two iconic Marvel characters throughout his lifelong career, the Russos believe that he could return to the MCU as X-Men's Wolverine.

In a recent interview with Comicbook.com (via Phaze Zero podcast), Brandon Davis asked the Russo Brothers, "If you had to work with Evans on another Marvel film, from the Multiverse as a different character, who are you putting him in the movie as?" Joe Russo candidly replied, "Wolverine," to which Anthony Russo strongly agrees.

"Evans has incredible range and great physicality, and he's real good at body control," Joe Russo added. "He's an incredible actor. I don't mean this in a bad way, but he's nothing like Captain America. Steve Rogers is very controlled and quiet, understated. Chris is energetic and funny and charismatic, and he brings a lot of energy to set. I'd love to see him do something like Wolverine."

Although this question seems to be plainly hypothetical, no one would even disagree that Evans' extraordinary range as an actor would definitely fit the Wolverine role. Aside from that, it would also be interesting to see Evans playing a character extremely opposite to the very well-contained Steve Rogers.

Also in a recent interview with MTV News, Evans admitted that he'd rather return as Fantastic Four's Human Torch than MCU's Captain America. "Yeah, I guess that's true. I mean, I guess all bets are off. Yeah. Look, I would love it. I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap," he said. "You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don't wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn't really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So I loved that role and, you know, who knows."

For now, Chris Evans won't be back as either Human Torch or Captain America or even take the Wolverine role. Instead, he is now playing the fan-beloved Toy Story space ranger, Buzz Lightyear, in Lightyear, now showing in theaters worldwide.
