Marvel Reportedly Has To Let Tom Holland Appear In Sony’s Spinoffs To Keep Spider-Man In The MCU

Sony had found a perfect new Spider-Man in the form of Tom Holland, but they perplexed fans when they started a franchise with Venom seemingly set outside of the MCU. As it turns out, we may eventually see Holland's Spider-Man in the ‘SUMC' and it might be necessary in order to let Marvel keep him in their universe.

As per insider Daniel R:

For now, it doesn't seem like anything official has been announced about Spider-Man having to appear in the SUMC, but there have been rumblings going around that Sony already had it in mind. After all, the studio is developing several spinoffs based on Spidey characters, and it wouldn't make sense for Spider-man not to appear in any of them.

Personally, I think the biggest issue here is on whether the SUMC exists in the MCU or not. If only Sony was more collaborative with Marvel when it came to the Spider-Man IP, we would be getting more films like Homecoming instead of the critical bomb that was Venom. I'm just hoping they make the connection sooner rather than later because we don't want any plotholes down the line if there would be some miscommunication with both studios.

For now, Venom has come out to be one of the most profitable movies of the year, and it's even made more money that Guardians of the Galaxy and Wonder Woman—so you bet Sony is going to keep pushing forward with the SUMC. I'm just hoping that we get more films like Into the Spider-Verse down the line.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters Dec. 14.
