Ruby Rose's Batwoman Debut on The CW Leaves Huge Clues for Potential Spinoff Series

If CW's Elseworlds crossover proved anything, it's that there is no such thing as a happy version of Gotham City. Barry Allen (The Flash), Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), and Kara Danvers (Supergirl) found this out the hard way when they were almost robbed in broad daylight and were sent to Arkham Asylum early on. Thankfully, Batwoman was there to make things better and it seems like her upcoming show has a lot of interest.

Like anyone who lives in Gotham, Kate Kane (played by Ruby Rose) knows this place is hell and told the other heroes to do whatever it took to clear their mission then GTFO. Apparently, Bruce Wayne left Gotham City three years ago and it has gone to hell ever since, with no one knowing why Batman left. It's definitely an intriguing set-up and one that should be explored more in the Batwoman series.

Batwoman executive producer Caroline Dries told reporters during a recent screening of the crossover (via Entertainment Tonight) that this was the point, giving viewers an intriguing set up and teasing them with all the possibilities via the Elseworlds crossover. It definitely worked for some, with many now wanting the series to come out yesterday and hoping for more answers. Here is hoping that it won't be 26 episodes like most CW shows.

Dries had this to say about teasing Batwoman's story in the crossover:

"We all, as a group, knew who the character was when we were breaking the story, so our goal was trying to create a setup story-wise where we could meet her, be intrigued by her, introduce Gotham a little bit, plant little visual things that are curious [to the viewer] and then have people wondering what is this world she's part of. We just realized the best story for that would be if our guys went to Gotham. She helped out with their story and then shooed them away. We knew who the character was going into it; the question for us was how to make her mysterious."

Now that Elseworlds is expected to wrap up soon, here is hoping that the crossover left an impact on viewers and makes them want to see a Batwoman series. I know I do.

Batwoman has no release date but could debut in either late 2019 or early 2020.
