Ron Howard May Not be Involved with the Willow Sequel

With Ron Howard teaming up with Lucasfilm to direct Solo: A Star Wars Story, the discussion has once again opened up about the possible sequel for Willow. Howard had said before that there have been "serious" discussions about the film, but now it looks like he won't be involved with the project at all.

During a Q&A held after a screening of Willow (via SlashFilm), Howard was asked about the sequel to which he said, "I don't know, it's a Lucasfilm project."

Screenwriter Bob Dolman also had to say about the Willow sequel, "I don't know much about it yet. I know a little, but not enough to talk about it."

By the looks of it, it seems that the movie is still in very early stages. With Lucasfilm putting all their focus on Star Wars after the Disney acquisition, I would actually think that they would want to cover some of their more recognizable IP in the future. Despite Harrison Ford's age, there's still an Indiana Jones 5 incoming from Solo writer Jon Kasdan. There have also been reports of an incoming sequel to Labyrinth.

I don't see the harm of having another go at Willow. Warwick Davis looks like he's game for a film, and he's always been enthusiastic enough to return to Star Wars. He's been in every single SW movie that's come out since The Force Awakens.

A Willow sequel has not been officially announced.
