Ron Howard Debunks The Theory That Willow Is Part Of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Universe

Willow might have been George Lucas projects after working in Star Wars and while fans have secretly hoped that Willow (Warwick Davis)might actually be a part of Lucasfilm's far, far away, Rogue One: A Star Wars director Ron Howard buckles up and tells fans the truth. Willow isn't part of the Star Wars franchise.

Of course, Lucas' fans know it as a popular theory - in fact, the Wookiepedia entry for Willow gathers together sources that suggest Willow is actually part of the Star Wars franchise, saying the Nelwyn dwarf and aspiring sorcerer might actually belong to a single planet in the galaxy far, far away.

However, speaking with fans during a Question and Answer session at the American Cinematheque after a 70mmm screening of the fantasy film (via Slash Film), Howard openly debunked the theory.

"I never heard anything about that," Howard told fans. "George never suggested anything like that."

It might be a bit heartbreaking to hear, but fans of Willow know very well that sword and sorcery have very little do with Jedi knights and cosmic space battles.

Surprisingly, Willow's participation in the Star Wars franchise wasn't the only debunked theory at the Q and A. Howard also refuted the theory that the trolls in Willow were sculpted after his brother, Clint. Howard's sibling usually has a cameo in his films, however, Clint failed to appear in Willow, allowing for the rumor to spread regarding the trolls.

"No, it's not Star Wars and the trolls are just trolls," Howard debunked. "I love working with my brother Clint and every opportunity that I ever have, I do it but I never force it. We were shooting in London and no role worthy of dragging him over."

We guess it's time that Willow fans accept the cold hard truth.

Lucasfilm's next Star Wars movie, Episode IX, hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
