Rogue One protagonist Jyn Erso was a compelling lead character of a Star Wars movie since she is not a lightsaber-wielding figure or an experienced bounty hunter and yet she became a heroic figure for the Rebellion despite being an ordinary person who has no extra special skills.

However, some fans have theorized that the character might have hidden Force-sensitive skills since she was seen saying a prayer to the Force at the beginning of the film when her mother gave her the kyber crystal.

While no scenes in the film, especially in the character's adult years, suggested that she could be a Jedi, it is still a prevailing theory nonetheless that fans believe that it possibly explains the character's belief in the Force.

In an interview with The Direct, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards was asked about his thoughts regarding the theory that Jyn Erso could be Force-sensitive.

He explained that the character's belief in the Force is simply a religious practice and it doesn't necessarily indicate that she herself is Force-sensitive.

"I don't know. I mean, I see the Force as, like, a religion, obviously. And it's like, you might tell a child, 'Have faith in God.' It doesn't mean that they're the Messiah," Edwards said.

"So, it's kind of, I see it like, you can believe in this idea that there's something greater than us; there's a destiny of some sort. But [you] don't have to be the second coming of Christ to do something great with your life."

The director laid out a great explanation regarding Jyn's belief in the Force that pretty much shot down the theory. Besides, you can also simply compare it to ourselves in real life in terms of our own religious beliefs with the way Jyn does her own in the Star Wars galaxy.

While the idea of Jyn being Force-sensitive sounds intriguing, in the end, her lack thereof made her an interesting heroic protagonist in the film and it just shows what kind of heroism you can still do despite the absence of a mystical power.

We've also seen that aspect with characters such as Han Solo and Cassian Andor who also have done impressive heroic actions even if they don't necessarily have the Force within them.
