Rogue One Composer Michael Giacchino Has Started Recording The Score For Spider-Man: Homecoming

Michael Giacchino is actually one of my more favorite Hollywood composers today, and I'm happy to see that he's been getting a lot of work. After providing the score for the rebooted Star Trek, Doctor Strange, and Rogue One, Giacchino has now been tapped to score Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Giacchino announced the start of his work via Twitter, and he has posted up a video of famed drummers Alex Acuña and Walter Rodríguez playing on a wacky drum set:

I guess the video could give us a teaser on the urban feel that we'll be getting for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Unlike the score for Birdman, however, I think Giacchino is planning to use a lot more instruments with the actual score.

I think that Giacchino is a pretty talented guy, and I would honestly put him in the same ranks as Hans Zimmer. He made some pretty memorable scores for all his recent movies and if you asked me to describe them, I would be able to hum them out in a heartbeat — that's more than I can say for the scores for Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy.

Would it be saying too much to think that he's the next John Williams? I have absolutely no idea. I'm just approaching this as a guy from the audience who loves what he's hearing.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out on July 7.
