Robert Rodriguez’s Follow-Up to Alita: Battle Angel Releasing in a Streaming Site

Last year, 20th Century Fox released Alita: Battle Angel, the live-action adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's cyberpunk manga series Battle Angel Alita/Gunmu.

While the film received mixed and average reviews from critics, the film did pretty well among fans of the original series. Making a considerable amount at the box office, Alita: Battle Angel found itself nominated for Best Science Fiction Film at the 45th Saturn Awards. It also found itself nominated for a Hollywood Professional Association Award.

Now, it looks like the follow-up to Robert Rodriguez's cyberpunk action film is going to be made, this time for a streaming site. According to a report by Deadline, Tubi streaming service has obtained exclusive streaming rights to Rodriguez follow-up to Alita: Battle Angel, a science fiction-horror movie called Red 11.

The film which first premiered at the SXSW film fest last year decided to explore the world of medical research. In the film, college students openly volunteer to work as lab rats so that they can make a quick buck. Rob (Roby Attal), the film's protagonist, is given the titular name Red 11. Rob consents to the experiments the hospital give him so that he can pay his $7000 debt, however, the student quickly doubts himself when he thinks that the hospital is trying to kill him. That or he's just experiencing the side effects of the experimental drugs in the research that he joined in.

Aside from Red 11, Tubi streaming is also featuring Rodriguez's companion series, The Robert Rodriguez Film School, a program that documents the filmmaker's guerrilla filmmaking.

Red 11 and The Robert Rodriguez Film School will be available to Tubi streamers when it drops this summer.
