Robert Pattinson's The Batman Will Explore Bruce Wayne's Formative Years

We officially have a new Batman now that Warner Bros. has confirmed Robert Pattinson for Matt Reeves' highly anticipated film. But what can fans look forward to in the new DC Extended Universe flick? It looks like it's time once again to revisit Bruce Wayne's formative years as a rising crimefighter.

The casting of the new Batman has truly been an exciting one since it was initially reported that Pattinson has been cast earlier this month. However, it turned out that the role has not yet been cast as Warner Bros. was also considering Tolkien star Nicholas Hoult as the young Bruce Wayne. However, it didn't take long before the studio ultimately decided on the Harry Potter actor.

The decision to cast Pattinson certainly confirms that we will be seeing a younger Batman. As We Got This Covered points out, the former Twilight star is the second youngest actor to be cast in the role at 33 years old. Christian Bale was 31 when he took on the role of the Caped Crusader in Batman Begins and that film revisited Bruce's origin story.

So does this mean we'll have to go through another Batman film where Thomas and Martha Wayne get killed all over again? We're certainly hoping that we will be spared from another depressing flashback sequence. However, The Batman could show how Bruce trained to become the iconic comic book crimefighter.

Interestingly, it also looks like The Batman will follow on the footsteps of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker and become a separate film from the established DCEU movies. It's an interesting move and we can't wait to see what's in store for us in the future.
