Robert Pattinson Cast As Dark Knight In Matt Reeves’ The Batman

Earlier this year, there were rumors that Ben Affleck would step down from his role as the Dark Knight in Matt Reeve's upcoming DC Extended Universe entry, The Batman. Many names were tagged as Affleck's replacement, and one of the most surprising name rumored to take on the role was Twilight trilogy star Robert Pattinson's.

Now, Variety reveals that Pattinson is currently in talks to play the Caped Crusader in Reeve's upcoming superhero film. While the publication's sources notes that negotiations have yet to be completed, the deal is expected to complete very soon.

It seems like DC is eager to nab Pattinson because Warner Brothers is already casting the star while Reeves continues to polish the final version of The Batman's script. If the deal pushes through, then the Twilight heartthrob will be the youngest actor to play Batman for DC.

While the project has yet to receive an official start date, The Batman has already been set for release sometime in June 2021. Filming is expected to begin later this year or early in 2020. Warner Brothers is giving Reeves a lot of time to properly develop the script, hoping that the director's upcoming entry helps set the DCEU in the right direction after the disappointing outcome of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Reeves is set to produce The Batman together with Dylan Clark, the filmmaker's collaborator on Planet of the Apes.

The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
