Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Play a Different MCU Character

If you had a chance, which Marvel character would you like to play in the films? Most people might choose Iron Man since he's cool, rich, and smart. However, the man who plays Tony Stark has other ideas. Robert Downey Jr. has just admitted he would be interested in playing a completely different Marvel Cinematic Universe character.

Downey recently promoted his new film Dolittle on BBC Radio 1 where he was asked by a young fan if there was another character he would play in the MCU. Interestingly, the Avengers: Endgame star confessed that there's another role that he would happily take.

"I can't think of any red-blooded American boy that didn't imagine themselves as Spider-Man growing up," Downey said. However, he doesn't want to be a webslinger. Instead, he would rather be a sharp shooter.

"Looking back on it now — also because I'm just such a Jeremy Renner fan, and he made it so cool, particularly when he turns into Ronin [in Endgame] — I would say Hawkeye would be my go-to," Downey said.

That's an unexpected choice but also one that makes sense. After all, Clint Barton has one of the best story arcs in the MCU, starting out as a seemingly cold character who is then revealed to be a loving family man. On the other hand, Renner has done an amazing job at playing Hawkeye so we can't really imagine anybody else playing the character.

Downey's new film Dolittle is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
