I think we can all agree that the original six Avengers were cast perfectly by Marvel Studios and fast forward to today, the idea of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlett Johansson not playing their career-defining MCU roles almost seems unfathomable. However, not a lot of people are aware of how everything came together. Did they get along right off the bat or was there any tension among the so-called "OG six"?

Well, turns out, most of them already knew each other way before joining the MCU except for Thor actor Chris Hemsworth who was pretty much the "new kid on the block". According to Jeremy Renner, the first time they met the Australian star on the set of the first Avengers film, the team's de facto leader Robert Downey Jr. aka Iron Man had some pretty "nasty" things to say about Hemsworth.

Appearing on the latest episode of Armchair Expert podcast, the star of the recently-concluded Disney+ series Hawkeye shared a hilarious story of how RDJ broke the ice with Hemsworth. According to Renner, Downey jokingly threatened to break Hemsworth's knee and take him out of the equation because he was too good-looking to become part of the pack.

He hilariously recalled: "On the first day, we’re all waiting around in our costumes. It looks like it’s Halloween. We’re excited but equally feeling ridiculous. I feel like we all knew each other somehow, someway, except for this Hemsworth guy, because he comes from Australia. And he’s the tallest, the most good-looking… Downey was like, ‘We gotta break his knee. We gotta take him out. This guy’s too good-looking. He’s too tall, he’s too charming, fuck this guy.'"

It's amazing how Downey, Evans, Ruffalo, Hemsworth, Renner, and Johansson were able to maintain a solid friendship to this day and it's definitely one of the reasons why fans are so attached to these films. The bond between the actors is genuine and it translates well on screen.

The original Avengers film is streaming on Disney+.
