Whether you'd like to admit it or not, it's hard to imagine cinema today without superhero films and despite the fact that the industry seemingly lives and breathes around comic book films these days, believe it or not, there was a point when people thought the genre would actually flop and apparently, even Avengers actress Scarlett Johansson felt the same way almost a decade ago.

According to the Black Widow star, she was fully convinced at one point in her life that the first MCU film which put together the Earth's Mightiest Heroes would actually flop. Speaking with The Gentlewoman, the Natasha Romanoff actress recalled that one moment that made her a little apprehensive about the first Avengers film becoming a huge success.

She explains: "Even the thought of all of us together in our superhero costumes sounded like it was going to be a disaster. Not a disaster, but, like, What is this? What is this?"

However, the iconic 360 shot of all six Avengers in one frame during the final battle in New York pretty much convinced her that they were onto something. She continued: "I remember doing that 360 shot, and we're standing in the rubble of Grand Central or whatever, of this alien onslaught, and all of us are ready, like: Here we go, this is it. And then they showed us the playback, and I think that was the moment that all of us, finally, after six months of shooting, was, ‘Oh, this is going to work. I think this is going to work."

Turns out, ScarJo was right, that epic sequence easily became one of the most iconic shots in superhero film history which is already an achievement on its own. On the other hand, I do understand where she was coming from because the first Avengers film was pretty much the first of its kind where all heroes from different films joined forces for a united cause. Looking back, it was a pretty daring move on Marvel Studios' part that ultimately paid off, and fast forward to today, the MCU has become one of the most lucrative film franchises ever.

Black Widow's theatrical release has once again been pushed back to July 9, 2021. The film will also be available for streaming on Disney+ via Premier Access with extra fees.
