Robert Downey Jr Reportedly Returning As Tony Stark In MCU Film

The death of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame is certainly depressing and some people are having trouble accepting the fact that Iron Man is gone. This is evident in the petition begging to resurrect Tony in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But is it possible that Marvel Studios has found a way to bring the character back? A new report reveals that Robert Downey Jr. might reprise the role in an upcoming MCU flick.

A Reddit post suggests that Downey could have an appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home and it isn't a mere flashback sequence. Interestingly, Tony could be a major presence throughout the movie.

In the post, a verified Marvel leaker was asked if Downey has a cameo in Far From Home. The response is quite interesting.

"I have heard he is the AI when Peter puts on glasses but cannot confirm," the leaker wrote.

What glasses? In the Far From Home trailer, it is revealed that Peter Parker has Tony's glasses. The brief scene shows Peter wearing it but quickly taking it off and saying, "Oh my God." The way the trailer is cut, it looks like he is amazed by Mysterio's powers. However, it's possible that he actually sees Tony instead.

The idea of Tony being the AI that interacts with Peter in Far From Home is certainly a welcome one. However, it is important to point out that Downey's appearance in the film has not yet been confirmed so it would be best to take this with a grain of salt.

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2.
