Robert Downey Jr.'s Marvel Cinematic Universe exit in 2019 undeniably left a massive void that is hard to fill, so it's no wonder fans are still yearning to see the return of the "Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist" to the billion-dollar franchise.

With the Multiverse Saga in full swing, there's definitely a good chance for Iron Man to once again turn up in Earth-616 via multiversal shenanigans and if the latest rumors are to be believed, RDJ could be heading back to the MCU in Avengers 5 and 6 to square off against Kang the Conqueror.

Now, a new report claims that apart from the next two Avengers films, Downey also wants to reunite with an old pal in an upcoming project. The folks over at Giant Freakin Robot report that the MCU pioneer wants a spot in Tom Holland's fourth Spider-Man film, a project that will see the web-slinger return to his street-level roots.

It remains unclear if RDJ only wants a cameo or a full-blown involvement in the project but considering Earth-616 Stark no longer exists, there's a good chance he could end up playing a variant of the character unless Marvel Studios pulls a resurrection card on him.

Of course, going that route, even though it's the most convenient thing to do comes with a huge consequence because Tony's sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame will become pointless. As much as I'd like to see him back in the franchise, his return must be executed well and not just for the sake of fan service. I'd be lying though if I said I don't want to see Stark and Parker reunite on the big screen.

As it stands, no official release date has been set for Spider-Man 4.
