Robert Downey Jr. recently revealed that he is still open for a potential MCU return following his Oscar win.

The actor famously portrayed Tony Stark in the MCU starting with the first Iron Man film in 2008 until Avengers: Endgame in 2019 where the character met his demise. Since then, he has not made more appearances in the franchise.

Now that Downey is an Oscar winner thanks to his acclaimed performance in Oppenheimer, some fans are wondering whether he will still make his MCU return someday or if he has already moved on from the franchise for good.

Speaking recently with Esquire, Downey was asked whether he is still open to making his MCU return now that he is an Oscar-winning actor.

He revealed that he would "happily" return to the MCU and noted that nobody should underestimate Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

"Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win," Downey said.

This is certainly an encouraging remark for fans since we have word coming from Downey himself that he could still make his return to the MCU if ever he gets asked to reprise the role of Iron Man.

There have been rumors and speculations lately that Downey is set to make his return in Avengers: Secret Wars although it has not been confirmed yet. Fans remain hopeful that the actor could show up in some capacity.

However, Feige has also warned in a past interview that they don't have plans to reverse Tony Stark's death in Endgame and they intend to keep it permanent.

"We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way," he told Vanity Fair.

For now, fans should lower their expectations regarding the possibility of Downey's MCU return, but at the very least, we have an assurance that the Oscar winner is open for a comeback in the future.
