Robert Downey Jr Clears Up Iron Man's Possible Return in MCU

We already know that Tony Stark is gone after the events in Avengers: Endgame. However, Robert Downey Jr. recently gave fans hope that Iron Man could return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So what exactly does the future hold for the beloved Avenger? Downey has finally clarified just what Tony's status is in the MCU.

It was previously reported that Downey somehow stated that he would be open to returning as Iron Man in the future. However, his wife immediately tried to stop him from going further into details since it could make the headlines. Now Downey has told Parade that he is officially done with Iron Man.

"The war for me is over," Downey told said. "I personally have alighted to greener pastures."

This isn't exactly a big surprise considering that Tony was killed off in Endgame. However, fans have still thought it would be possible to bring back the character in some strange way. For instance, it has been confirmed that Downey will have a small cameo in Black Widow, which is set in the past. On the other hand, almost every other MCU project happens to be set in the future.

Unfortunately, this means that any hopes for Iron Man 4 or even just a cameo in another MCU flick are not happening. Nevertheless, we're happy for Downey as he pursues other projects.

Downey's next movie is Dolittle, which is scheduled for release on January 17. Black Widow will hit theaters on May 1.
