The story of Iron Man came to a close in Avengers: Endgame when the hero sacrificed his life and did the snap to finally defeat and undo Thanos' doings. Since then, Marvel fans have been wondering whether Robert Downey Jr. will ever make his return as Tony Stark. So when the reports about Downey making a cameo in the upcoming Black Widow movie gone around, they had high hopes that this was true. However, it looks like the actor isn't even aware of it.
To promote his movie Dolittle, Downey sat down with co-stars Michael Sheen, John Cena, and Craig Robinson in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "Right. Great. I mean, it would be nice if they notified me," the actor said when asked if the fans should buckle up for his appearance on the movie. "Forewarned is forearmed."
Downey then pointed out that people "could do anything now." "This could be a deep fake interview for all we know," the actor joked. Well, he essentially confirmed that he won't be appearing in the highly-anticipated film, but there could still be a slight possibility that the actor is trying to keep it a secret. That being said, his chances of returning as Iron Man is very slim.
In a previous interview, Downey mentioned that there would have to be "a super compelling argument and a series of events" for the character's return to make sense, but he admits that he has "hung up" his guns and that it's "good to let it go."
Downey's first film post-Endgame is Dolittle which is scheduled for release on January 17.
