One of the most heart-wrenching things that happened in Avengers: Endgame was the death of Tony Stark. Considering that Iron Man's fate was pretty much concluded in the movie, the superhero's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be very slim. That being said, Robert Downey Jr. thinks it'll take something big to happen for the hero to return.

In a recent interview with Joe Rogan on his podcast, the actor revealed that there is still a chance for Iron Man to make his way back to the MCU, but it would be quite difficult to establish. "To me, starting up again is off the table," he said. In addition, Downey feels like he has done all he could with the character. "There would have to be a super compelling argument and a series of events that made it obvious," the actor added. "But the other thing is, I wanna do other stuff."

Downey also said in a previous interview that he has already "hung up" his guns and is "good to let it go." He thinks that Marvel is on their journey on trying a "bunch of other stuff," and pointed out that he's excited to see "how all that goes" for the studio.

Iron Man's potential return is still uncertain. However, it wouldn't be entirely impossible for the hero to return and live on through other projects within the studio. After all, anything could happen in the Marvel universe. But for now, fans could only hope for Downey's return as the beloved superhero.

Downey's first film post-Endgame is Dolittle which is scheduled for release on January 17.
