Road House is a 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, Red West, and Jeff Healey. Amazon confirmed they picked up the project early in August and announced that Jake Gyllenhaal would be headlining the film.

Road House Reboot Release Date: When Will the Road House Reboot Come Out?

There is still no release date announced for the reboot of Road House. The movie has only been confirmed by Prime Video, and details are still being finalized, so it may premiere no earlier than 2023.

The original Road House film premiered on May 19, 1989, so Prime Video may follow the first film’s footsteps and come out around the same date.

From MGM to Amazon

Plans for the Road House reboot first surfaced in 2021, with MGM developing the project as the original rights holder. A year later, in March 2022, Amazon purchased MGM for $8.5 billion, along with all the projects in development, including the Road House remake.

Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, said that the Road House remake was a homerun for the studio.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience.

When will Road House Reboot start filming?

The Road House reboot is scheduled to start filming in late August 2022, and it seems production has begun. Road House reboot star Jake Gyllenhaal posted a picture with director Dough Liman on his Instagram account on August 24, giving us our first look at the film.

The scenes for the reboot will be filmed in the Dominican Republic.

Jake Gyllenhaal Take the Lead Role

Jake Gyllenhaal will play James Dalton, the lead character in Prime Video’s reboot of Road House. Gyllenhaal is an acclaimed actor who has gained recognition from many awarding bodies. Some of his most famous movies are Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, and Spider-Man: Far from Home.

James Dalton was originally portrayed by Patrick Swayze, who is most known for playing the lead roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost.

We still have to wait and see how Gyllenhaal will portray a more modern James Dalton and how his character will differ from the original.

Conor McGregor Joins as an Original Character

UFC Champion Conor McGregor makes his acting debut in Road House. His first major acting role will be an original character written for the reboot. When he met with studio representatives, McGregor was already a fan of the original film, which may have inspired them to write him into the reboot.

The Other Members of Road House

More A-list actors are joining Gyllenhaal in the Road House reboot.

Billy Magnussen (from No Time to Die), Gbemisola Ikumelo (from A League of Their Own), and Daniela Melchoir (from Suicide Squad) are part of the cast. Lukas Gage (from The White Lotus), Travis Van Winkle (from You), and Hannah Love Lanier (from A Black Lady Sketch Show) will also be part of the reboot along with B.K. Cannon, Dominique Columbus, and Beau Knapp.

Road House Reboot Crew: Who are the Creatives Behind the Scenes of the Remake?

Doug Liman, who previously worked on hit action movies like The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, will be directing the Road House reboot based on the script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

Liman commented about making the remake, saying:

I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.

Joel Silver of Silver Pictures will produce the film with Aaron Auch, JJ Hook, and Alison Winter as the executive producers.

Road House Reboot Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Amazon Prime Video Film?

The original Road House movie was released in 1989. It tells the story of an in-demand bouncer who starts working at a roadside bar in a small town in Missouri. He was brought on to bring order to the unruly bar, where he soon learns about the corruption led by a local businessman.

The Road House remake will have some differences from the original film. We still do not know what the complete plot of the movie will be, but we know that Gyllenhaal’s James Dalton will be a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer. Instead of a dive bar in Missouri, the remake will take place in a roadhouse in Florida, where Dalton soon uncovers trouble in the tropics.
