Ridley Scott May Be Planning To Make Multiple 'Prometheus' Sequels

Ridley Scott's latest film The Martian will be released in theaters on October 22, and the director's next project is also a sci-fi film: Prometheus 2. But according to the recent interview with German film site FilmFutter, Scott may be planning more sequels for his pre-Alien franchise. Prior to the first Prometheus' release, fans were confused if the movie was actually a prequel to Alien, but the film's ending confirmed it was. We've seen the creation of the Xenomorph in the movie, but that's about it. We didn't see how the story tied to the first Alien movie. But Scott says that he's getting closer to connecting the stories together, but it would probably take a few more Prometheus sequels to form that narrative bridge. ComingSoon translated Scott's quotes from German:

"Yes," Scott replied when asked if Prometheus would directly connect toAlien, "but it won't be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into theAlienfranchise… The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction."

There may be something missing in translation, but it sounds like Scott is planning to work on multiple Prometheus sequels. With Neill Blompkamp's upcoming Alien movie (which is also being produced by Scott), I think the Prometheus sequels would give us enough background to flesh out these Xenomorphs more. Scott's plans to release more sequels could be the reason why Blompkamp's project was delayed to 2017. We'll have to wait and see how the Alien franchise will evolve.
