Ridley Scott Believes Alien Franchise Still has 'A Lot of Mileage'

Ridley Scott had tried to take the Alien franchise to a different direction with Prometheus, but the film kind of took a misstep and Scott had to backtrack with Alien: Covenant. With the future of the franchise unsure, Scott has stated that he thinks that there's a future for the Alien universe down the line.

Talking to the LA Times, Scott shares:

"I still think there's a lot of mileage in ‘Alien,' but I think you'll have to now re-evolve… What I always thought when I was making it, the first one, why would a creature like this be made and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs. What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That's the thing to question — who, why, and for what purpose is the next idea, I think."

For now, Covenant had ended on an ominous note with David taking over the ship and bringing his ‘perfected' Xenomorphs. There's still a lot of space to fill in to get into the timeline of the first Alien movie, so that's where the story could go next.

Personally, I actually liked the concept of Prometheus as it was looking to us sci-fi as a means to answer some huge philosophical questions as to why we exist and who created us, but I guess the movie had already stumbled when it dropped the concept to bring in all the Alien references.

We don't know when the next Alien film will come out, but hopefully Scott already has it planned. If anything, we can always just wait for a reboot/sequel which will come in the next 10 years.
