Rick and Morty Season 7 premiered this October 2023, but does this mean the end of the series, or will we see Rick and Morty Season 8 released in the future?

The Adult Swim cartoon has been one of the most popular and successful adult animated shows, up until the former series creator and star Justin Roiland got fired earlier this year.

While charges against him were dropped, Adult Swim stood by their decision and isn't planning on bringing him back on set.

It's a known fact that the Rick and Morty show was always meant to run for longer seasons, given its no-time-constraint storytelling, as the creators mentioned before, so will there be a Rick and Morty Season 8, after all?

Here's all you need to know about the potential next season.

As of writing, no. Rick and Morty has not been renewed yet for Season 8.

However, considering that the long-running satirical sci-fi show has always been able to land on its feet in every season, there's a chance that the Adult Swim cartoon could keep getting its renewal for a much longer time.

In a 2018 interview with The Wrap, Dan Harmon and former co-creator Justin Roiland admitted they want to have the Rick and Morty show run for "as long as they want it to." Roiland believes the show could "run forever," to which Harmon agreed by saying, "[Rick and Morty] just feels infinite."

Harmon not only confirmed they aim to have Rick and Morty release one season per year, but also how they want the sci-fi series to run at least up to Season 20:

"That's the nice thing about Rick and Morty is I feel like from Episode 1 forward, there's always been a commitment in the DNA of the show to not engage in so much soap opera-ness that there's an inevitable conclusion coming - you know, Mulder is gonna find his sister and he won't have a reason to do 'X-files' anymore [laughs]. We don't really have that.
We've certainly got elements that can only happen once as far as revelations about Rick and stuff like that, but I do believe that the adventures can go on for theoretically 1000 episodes."

However, plans changed when Roiland appeared in court in January 2023 to face his domestic violence charges. Due to this, Adult Swim severed ties with the former co-creator and declared looking into replacing his voice.

Roiland has long been voicing the titular characters since their debut, but with Rick and Morty Season 7's trailer released, it would seem that the upcoming season of the series is not facing any difficulties with the new voice actor, after all.

As for the seasonal plans for the running of Rick and Morty, the most we've gotten most recently is that the show is planning to run for up to "at least Season 10":

Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever. It's season seven, and the possibilities are endless: what's up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let's find out! There's probably less piss than last season. Rick and Morty, 100 years! Or at least until Season 10!

Latest Rick and Morty Season 8 News

During the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2023, Rick and Morty co-executive producer Steve Levy teased that Rick and Morty Season 8 is "fully written" (translated from French and spotted by @swimpedia on X):

"In addition, [Rick and Morty] Season 8 is already fully written, and we managed to plot a good part of Season 9 before the writers' strike. So, we are already talking about Season 10!"
"We could go on forever. The series is a vehicle for great sci-fi ideas, which have been around for a long time elsewhere. We obviously didn't invent the Multiverse, but we made it known to an audience that didn't know the concept."
"We are inspired by great science fiction and there are still a million ideas to be exploited. And even if the multiverse is used absolutely everywhere now - to the point that it becomes tiring - we are ready to bounce back. It's an exciting challenge. What could we do after the Multiverse? So much more you will see in future seasons. We want originality. We want to push the limits."

The main cast members of Rick and Morty are Chris Parnell as Jerry Smith, Spencer Grammer as Summer Smith, Sarah Chalke as Beth Smith, and Space Beth Smith.

Well, since there is no news yet on Rick and Morty Season 8 coming to fruition any time soon, here's the Rick and Morty Season 7's synopsis for now.

At the end of Rick and Morty Season 6, the titular scientist rambled on to Morty about something that technically teases what to expect this Season 7:

"Rick and Morty Season Seven. Hunting my nemesis. Maybe trying to stay healthy while doing it, juggling plates - not every episode, Morty, it could be all happening in the background. Who knows?"

Meanwhile, the Adult Swim trailer included a little connection to Rick's previous statement. Morty enters his grandpa's lair to find Rick cooking up something on his computer. "Any progress?" Morty asked.

Rick was quick to say, "I found the version of me that killed my wife, you just missed it." Which, as much as it sounds with finality to it, means Rick is finally going to get to the bottom of his trauma: losing his wife.
