Richard E. Grant Teases Star Wars Episode IX Interaction With Matt Smith's Character

Has anyone noticed that most of the new cast members of Star Wars: Episode IX are Doctor Who alumni? Richard E. Grant sure has and he may have teased how his character will interact with Matt Smith in the highly anticipated sequel.

Grant and Smith had previously worked together in Series 7 of the sci-fi show. When Radio Times asked if there was any chance that the Great Intelligence and the Eleventh Doctor will be reunited in special Episode IX scene, Grant had an interesting response.

"I would be fired if I told you anything about that," Grant said with a smile.

Although he didn't actually confirm anything, several fans immediately believed that Grant may have revealed that his character will have several scenes with Smith. Interestingly, this could mean that Grant is playing someone connected to Kylo Ren and the First Order. After all, there have been reports that Smith's role calls for him to work closely with Adam Driver.

It was previously reported that Smith has been spotted on the set of Episode IX wearing long dark robes similar to Kylo Ren and looking a lot like one of the Knights of Ren. It was also revealed that Smith was seen holding a lightsaber which could mean he is a Force user just like the former Ben Solo. Is Smith one of Luke Skywalker's students who turned against the Jedi Master? We're sure to find out later this year.

Star Wars: Episode IX has not yet been given an official title. The film is scheduled for release on December 20.
