Rian Johnson’s New Star Wars Trilogy Not “At All” Connected To Current Star Wars Movies

There hasn't been a lot of information on the new Star Wars trilogy that Lucasfilm's planning to build after Star Wars: Episode IX, but the filmmaker put in charge of the next chapter in the Star Wars franchise, director Rian Johnson, has just recently announced that the trilogy won't be connected to the sequel trilogy "at all."

Sitting down to speak with Screen Rant, Johnson reiterated the fact that the new trilogy he's been tasked to work on won't be connected to Star Wars current trilogy, saying that his movies would be a separate thing.

"Well, no. So, he's going to do the next episode, so do the final chapter of this trilogy, and then I'm just completely, separately going to be coming up with a whole new trilogy that won't be connected to this at all. I'm just going to come up with something new and do it."

That sounds like an exciting idea. One of the best things about the Star Wars universe its span, and with so many possible topics to touch, we can only imagine what Johnson has planned for everyone. Coming off of work from The Last Jedi, Johnson is still at the very beginning of working on the new trilogy, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
