Star Wars: Episode VIII writer/director Rian Johnson shared on Tumblr a behind-the-scenes photo of Maz Kanata's face, and someone stood across the screen. That person is presumably Lupita Nyongo'o', who did the motion capture and voice for the character in The Force Awakens. It looks like this image confirms her appearance in Episode VIII.
Mark Hamill also tweeted a photo of himself hugging Lupita Nyong'o' on the set. Oscar Isaac is also seen with them.
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on Dec. 15, 2017. Just recently, a possible filming location has been revealed.
