There was so much discussion and debate after Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII's official title was The Last Jedi. Who's the Jedi that it's reffering to? Is it just one Jedi? Two? Three? More? What's going to happen to the Light side of the Force?
Though the international translation revealed that the Jedi in The Last Jedi is actually plural, indicating that there's more than one Jedi in the next Star Wars installment, there's still a lot of mystery to the title. After all, even if we do find out how many Jedi there are, we're still not sure what the name holds for the users of the Light side of the Force.
Now, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has given fans a small clue:
Though it may seem more or less like a joke, the final Jedi actually clarifies a lot of things about the title of the upcoming Star Wars saga installment. Though some hoped that the title simply referred to the most recent members of the order, others predicted a much darker end, saying that The Last Jedi could point towards something terminal, perhaps the end of the order. "Final Jedi" adds to this theory, implying that there would be no other Jedi to follow. If the Sith were replaced by the Knights of Ren, then Lucasfilm may be creating another Light side order to replace the Jedi as well. That or Johnson's answer was just a ruse. We'll have to wait and see.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on Dec. 15, 2017.
