Rhaenys Velaryon Serves Targaryen Realness in House of the Dragon Episode 9

The penultimate episode of House of the Dragon is finally here and although it didn't match any of Game of Thrones' Episode 9 body counts, it did give us one of the most badass moments courtesy of Rhaenys Velaryon.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM HOUSE OF THE DRAGON EPISODE 9, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

In House of the Dragon Episode 9, only a few people are made aware that King Viserys I Targaryen has died. It doesn't take long before the Small Council is called in and upon hearing the king's last words to Alicent Hightower, they immediately plan to instal Aegon II to the Iron Throne. When Lord Lyman Beesbury resists, he is swiftly silenced by Ser Criston Cole.

Alicent insists that Rhaenyra Targaryen should be presented with safe terms where she will accept Aegon as the new heir but Otto Hightower insists that a living challenger will present a possible insurgency. Otto orders Lord Commander Westerling to head to Dragonstone to kill Rhaenyra's family but he resigns, claiming that he has no place in the Kingsguard without a king.

While the Greens are out looking for the missing Aegon, Rhaenys has been locked in her room. Alicent visits and tells her she will be freed if she confirms her alliance with the Greens. Luckily, Ser Arryk sneaks Rhaenys out and she manages to see Aegon's coronation before making her way to the Dragonpit to retrieve Meleys and disrupt the event.

Not surprisingly, fans are loving how Rhaenys totally stole the show and made a statement about where her allegiance lie. This has led to Rhaenys being the most trending part of House of the Dragon Episode 9.

It's great to see the Targaryen-born Rhaenys and Meleys finally in action and although some were hoping that they Dracarys-ed the Greens, we're definitely looking forward to seeing them join the Dance of the Dragons.

The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 10 is titled The Black Queen and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
