There is little doubt that Regina King is one of the most talented women in Hollywood today. In addition to taking home several awards as an actress, she has also been nominated for her directorial debut One Night in Miami... back in 2020. However, the Watchmen star was still not prepared when she found out that she was being considered to helm J.J. Abrams' Superman movie.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Warner Bros. is planning a Superman reboot that Abrams had proposed. It was also reported that Abrams will not be directing the project but the studio is already looking for a Black director to helm the new movie.
Interestingly, a shortlist of directors who are being considered for the job has been revealed and not surprisingly, King's name came up. When MSNBC asked the If Beale Street Could Talk actress about it, King admitted it was the first time she has heard the news.
"Tiffany, that is news to me," King said. "You have broke the news to me! A news break, live on MSNBC. Yeah, no I have not heard that until just now."
It's not exactly a huge surprise that Warner Bros. has not yet approached King about the project. After all, they are probably considering all the possibilities before moving forward. However, the idea of King directing the Superman movie is a welcome one and we can't wait for it to be officially announced.
