Red Sonja Movie Drops Bryan Singer

With the rise of female superhero movies, a lot of people rejoiced that a Red Sonja movie was moving forward, but got more than they bargained for when it was announced that Bryan Singer would direct the movie. As it turns out, Singer has (finally) been fired from the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

[Millennium Films CEO Avi Lerner] made news recently when he hired Bryan Singer to direct a reboot of Red Sonja. After Singer was accused in an Atlantic magazine article of sexually assaulting underaged boys, Lerner dismissed the story as "agenda-driven fake news," then walked the statement back. Eventually, he dropped Singer from the project because he was unable to secure a domestic distributor.

A lot of people are skeptical about the reason that it was the trouble with the distributor that got Singer fired. If you've been reading the news lately, you'll know that Singer is under a lot of scrutinies for various reasons, the biggest of which are sexual harassment allegations. Though Bohemian Rhapsody was all over the Oscars, criticism of Singer was everywhere as well.

For now, it looks like Red Sonja is going to have a harder time moving forward. Singer was the biggest name attached to the production, but with him out of the picture, Millennium will have to find someone else willing to take on the director's chair.

Times like this I imagine fans would want a woman at the helm of the film. I guess Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins would be a good choice. I mean, she already showed us what she can do with fantasy warrior women.

No release date has been set for Red Sonja.
