While the Rebuild movies have technically ended with the release of 3.0+1.0, it seems Rebuild of Evangelion is refusing to end as the new Evangelion 3.0 Prologue was announced. This prologue will be included in the upcoming Rebuild Blu-ray release.
Recently, a bonus prologue short for the third Rebuild movie entitled Evangelion: 3.0 (-46h) was revealed, and it will be included in the upcoming Evangelion 3.0+1.11 Blu-ray release.
Rebuild of Evangelion Timeline
The Rebuild movies are a remake of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series by Hideaki Anno.
While the series began as a faithful adaptation, it quickly became its own thing as it introduced new characters and had a different story.
It began with the first film entitled Evangelion 1.0 which was followed by the 2.0 and 3.0 movies which were released in 2009 and 2012, respectively.
Though the fourth and final movie entitled Evangelion 3.0+1.0 was released after nearly a decade as it got a Japanese theatrical release back in March 2021.
It may have taken a while, but the film series’ story finally concluded with 3.0+1.0, though it turned out that it wasn’t the last we’ve seen from Rebuild.
Just a few months after its initial theatrical run, the fourth movie was re-released in Japan as Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time.
This updated version features enhanced cuts of select scenes, though it did not change the story in any way.
This re-release made sense to capitalize on the hype for the finale, though again, this isn’t the last official release for the long-running movie series.

Evangelion 3.0 Prologue, New Character
The prologue short that was revealed recently will be part of the fourth film’s home video release.
Interestingly, even if it's part of the fourth film's Blu-ray release, the prologue is instead intended for Evangelion 3.0.
What’s also interesting about the short is that it seems to introduce a new character – a mysterious girl with black hair.
This new character was teased via the official Evangelion Twitter account, though it wasn’t mentioned who she is.
This may be a new character entirely, though she might also be a younger version of an existing Rebuild character, which might make a bit more sense as it's a prologue instead of a side story.
While we don’t know who she is yet, what we do know is that the Evangelion 3.0+1.11 Blu-ray will be released in Japan on March 8, 2023.
