Reboot for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Could Start Shooting This Year

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2014 was a hit, but the sequel TMNT: Out of the Shadows ended up bombing in the box office. News has it that Paramount is already working on a reboot for the movie and they're aiming to start production very soon.

Talking to Variety, producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller were asked about the upcoming reboot, and they said that they are aiming for the movie to start production before 2019 ends. So far, the film still doesn't have a director or cast, so unless they find someone in a few months, I think they'll have to settle for a 2020 start.

Personally, I actually thought that Out of the Shadows was an okay film, and it actually gave us more of the Turtles than the first movie. I think the big problem with these movies is the aging fanbase who seemingly don't understand that the core audience is supposed to be children. Not to mention the wave of complaints once you have Michael Bay's name attached to a project.

If I had any gripe with Out of the Shadows, it would be the terrible interpretation of Casey Jones played by Stephen Amell. Other than that, the movie was a childish romp; the Turtles were fun, Bebop and Rocksteady looked amazing, and I can get the cartoonish motivation of both Krang and Shredder.

Then again, maybe a reboot would work. What are the odds that it's going to be a reboot/sequel to the original 1990 film? How about an animated film instead? It worked for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

No release date has been set for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.
