Quentin Tarantino Wants His Star Trek Movie To Be Rated R

Star Trek 4 may have been shelved for now and the franchise's only hope seems to be the involvement of director Quentin Tarantino. There is apparently a script for the movie already and it seems that Tarantino is going to make it Rated R.

Talking to Empire Magazine (via ComicBook), Tarantino said, "Oh yeah!... It's an R-rated movie. If I do it, it'll be R-rated."

We don't really know how Tarantino would make Trek Rated R, but Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy) had said before about the script:

"You shouldn't worry that it is going to be full of obscenity and stuff… He wants an R-rating to really make those beats of consequence land. If it's not PG, if someone gets sucked out into space, which we have all seen before, we might see them get disemboweled first…It allows some breadth…gives him some leeway to do that. To me, that was always one of the things I loved about what DeForest Kelley did. He would actually capture the horror of space. That look in his eyes of sheer terror always struck me when I was a kid."

Personally, I would prefer that Tarantino kept the franchise more PG friendly since I think Trek has something for both adults and kids. Then again, if you're going to have Tarantino make your movie, it's best to probably make it his way. No one wants to watch a neutered Tarantino flick.

For now, Tarantino is busy promoting the release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Hopefully, after this, we'll get more solid updates on his Trek project.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood comes out July 26.
